生於臺南麻豆，祖籍江蘇鎮江。臺灣大學森林系畢業，在美國分獲雪城大學教育碩士、波士頓西蒙絲學院兒童文學碩士，以及麻州大學傳播系博士，現任紐約大學專業學院媒體學教授，為國內資深兒童文學創作者。
自大學三年級起，即開始發表童詩、童話和圖畫故事。作品〈小紅〉曾獲《中國時報》文學獎童話首獎，《 * 的故事》獲兒童文學協會金龍獎，《葉子鳥》獲信誼基金會評選委員獎及金鼎獎優良圖書等榮譽。中、英文兒童文學著作及譯作近四十本。
Born and raised in Taiwan, Chyng Sun, Ph.D., is a documentary filmmaker and a Clinical Professor of Media Studies at the School of Professional Studies at New York University.
She is also a children's book writer in both Chinese and English, published in Taiwan, China, Korea, New Zealand, and the U.S.
She has written and translated over 40 children's books, and has won numerous national awards in Taiwan. She received master’s degrees in Education (Syracuse University), and Children’s Literature (Simmons College), and earned her doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
