原名林含英，小名「英子」，大家敬稱她為「林海音先生」。林海音先生不但是知名作家，也是影響臺灣文壇極為深遠的編輯與出版者，對推廣台灣文學不遺餘力，並且提攜了許多創作人才，出版了相當多優秀的文學作品。她寫小說、散文，也翻譯、創作兒童文學，代表作《城南舊事》一書，更是兩岸三地知名的著作。自1968到1996年，她加入國立編譯館國小國語教科書編審會，並主稿一、二年級的國語課本。她把兒童文學的精神和趣味融入教科書，為當時低年級的國語課本開啟了嶄新的面貌，注入「林海音風格」，得到社會及教育界的讚賞。
Hai-yin Lin is one of the most renowned and popular authors of her time, as well as one of the most influential editors and publishers in the field of literature in Taiwan. She was dedicated in promoting Taiwanese literature, nurtured countless young and talented Taiwanese authors, and published many outstanding works of literature.
