Hsiao-Chen Lay was born in Taichung, and went to Northern Taiwan for college. She’s lived in Scotland and New Zealand, and has returned to her hometown of Taichung to concentrate on being a children's book writer. After writing for more than 20 years, she now focuses more on quality than on quantity. She hopes that readers of all ages can gain courage and strength from her books.
Lay is a two-time Golden Tripod Awards recipient, for Little Monkey Finds Friends in 2012 and for Little Black Goat Goes to School in 2016. She also received China Times Open Book Award Best Children’s Books of the Year twice, in 2010 and 2011, the Chiuko Modern Children’s Literature Award, the Mandarin Daily News Reed Pipe Awards and the Good Books for Everyone Award Best Children’s Books of the Year, among others.
Dotkuan is an illustrator. She likes picture books, comics and graphic novels. She dreams of simplifying her lifestyle, of working at his dining table, of using a bookcase to store everything, of having what Virginia Woolf calls “a room of one’s own,” of raising a dog, a cat and a cockatiel. Her inspiration for creation comes from the many imperfections in life.
